Ukraine

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

I am on my way tomorrow to Lviv , which is the most western city of the east and the most eastern city of the west, if I may believe some sources. Anyway it is on the UNESCO world heritage list, so I am really curious. On Tuesday I will go to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. I am looking forward to it, I have never been there so it is new for me. I am with two friends and Les Anciens d’AEGEE organize something for us, which is great!

I hope I can post some blogs when I am there, but do not count on it….

Scheveningen

Today I went to a reception at the ministry of transport , because a good friend of me had his jubilee because he is working for 40 years (!) for the Ministry of Transport. After I went to the beach in Scheveningen and made some nice pictures, also I wrote a poem, which I want to share here.

Top 10 Reasons Why Macedonians Can’t Be Terrorists

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Lol , just for fun :-) I mean nothing with it, i saw it by coincidence:-)

10. 8:45am is too early for us to be up.
9. We are always late, we would have missed all 4 flights.
8. Pretty people on the plane would distract us.
7. We would talk loudly and bring attention to ourselves.
6. Free food and drinks were on the plane.
5. We talk with our hands, we would have put our weapons down.
4. We would all want to fly the plane.
3. We would argue and start a fight in the plane.
2. We would have bragged and told everyone a week before doing it.
1. We would have hung a Macedonian flag and a picture of Goce Delcev in the windshield!

Kosovo -Macedonia

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

navivaci-kosovo-transparentThere is a little dispute between Kosovo (which still is officially Serbia) and Macedonia.  During a football (the 27th September) match in Kosovo a Macedonian flag was burned. Also a banner against the “new Macedonian encyclopaedia was shown, see the picture at the right.

The issue is about a encyclopaedia, where scientist from the Macedonian academy of Arts and Sciences stated that the Albanians “came later “(approx. 1/4th of the population in MK is Albanian) . It doesn’t matter that you came later (ask the Greeks), but in the Balkans this is asking for problems, so that ‘s why this banner was showed and probably the Macedonian flag was burned.

I do not know why or what, I was not there, but it shows (again) the Balkan region is a very fragile region.  In this particular case Macedonia is very fragile. It was always a playground for Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Albania and still is. I hope I can wrote more about the “Balkan wars” at the beginning of the 20th century, which were most of the part about Macedonia, but I have a lack of time.  It seems “unknown” forces want still have Macedonia to be demolished.

I want to quote a sentence of a book I am reading now (Macedonia and Greece, the struggle to Define a New Balkan Nation, written by John Shea): “As the Irish patriot Roger Casement (executed by the British after the 1916 uprising in Ireland) put it: “I know of two tragic histories in the world – that of Ireland, and that of Macedonia. Both of them have been deprived and tormented

We are now living in 2009 and it seems things still did not change. Fact is that still things are sensitive in / about Macedonia and I hope I can discover more and write about it. Personally I think about my Macedonian friends, who are struggling to have a normal live and have no hate against others: I hope they never will be victim of imperialistic nations , political parties, or anything else, just like everywhere else on the world…..

Personally I like Macedonia and Macedonians (it does not matter for me if they are Albanian, “Slav”Macedonian, Turkish, Vlach, Serbian, Dutch or whatever)  and I hope they will soon have the chance to join the EU and Nato so that they continue with their lives as respected European citizens, just as I suppose to be. “Sonce i Mesecina”, sun and moon :-) , let both shine their light about Macedonia, a country and it ‘s people I adore.

The fragile Balkans

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

I saw an interesting article with the title “the fragile Balkans” (click on the link to read the full article).  It does remind me about a post a wrote earlier, you can see it here (look under 18/02).

The situation does not seemed to change….my map of last year is still actual.
